The Securities Investors Association Singapore (Sias) has urged Hyflux chairman and chief executive Olivia Lum to relinquish her position as chairman and make way for someone with “greater independence and experience in rescuing troubled companies”.

Sias president David Gerald says it is time for a new chairman to bring in a fresh perspective and a different set of skills to the restructuring…

Tan Chong Huat, managing partner at RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP, concurred with Mr Gerald, saying that if Ms Lum and the current board are not open to the idea of appointing an independent chairman, the onus would be on them to convince stakeholders that such a change would not be in the group’s interests.
