RHT Law warmly welcomes former Court of Appeal and High Court Judge Mr LP Thean, who joined the firm as a Senior Consultant on 3rd January 2012.
Mr LP Thean’s appointment with RHT Law was featured as one of the key moves at the start of the year in The Straits Times published on 5 Jan 2012.
Mr LP Thean has extensive legal and judicial experience. He was in legal practice in Kuala Lumpur from July 1958 to November 1964 and in Singapore from November 1964 to January 1984. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Singapore from 1984 to 1993 and as a Judge of Appeal in the Court of Appeal from 1993 till his retirement in February 2002. The judgments which he delivered as a Judge of the High Court and as a member of the Court of Appeal have been extensively reported in the Singapore Law Reports.
Mr LP Thean is currently a member of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore, Chairman of the Public Accountants Oversight Committee, Chairman of the Competition Appeal Board, Chairman of the Market Surveillance and Compliance Panel of National Electricity Market of Singapore, and a Director of Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation Limited.
In the last 5 months, RHT Law has bolstered its strength with 4 veteran hires, namely Mr John Wang, Mr Sim Yong Chan and Ms Tan Siew Kim to the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice, and Mr Ung Gim Sei to the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice.

This Christmas season, the firm hopes to play a part in ensuring that children with cancer can still lead a normal childhood by leading a donation drive in aid of RHT Law’s adopted charity, Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) . Apart from internal donations from members of the firm, an appeal also goes out to clients and visitors of RHT Law to chip in generously in support of the beneficiaries of CCF. Donations can be via cash or cheque made payable to ‘Children’s Cancer Foundation’. Each donor will be given a card to write their well wishes for the children and families affected by childhood cancer, which will be given to CCF to convey their love and well wishes at the end of the donation drive.
The collection period will be throughout December 2011.
As a caring and people centric firm, RHT Law is supporting the ‘Learn-A-Thon 2011’ charity event and is the Honorary Legal Advisor to its organising committee.
This social media driven philanthropic initiative expects to draw in 2000 attendees at Kallang Theatre and raise S$100,000 for Singapore-based regional relief charity, Mercy Relief. The funds raised by the Learn-A-Thon will be donated to Mercy Relief and will mostly go towards humanitarian relief, clean up and reconstruction efforts after the waters have subsided, which is where international aid contributions will be most welcomed.
