Singapore Business Review set out to recognize the country’s trailblazing professionals at the inaugural Business Rankings Awards 2014 held on 4 December 2014 at The Shangri-La Singapore. RHTLaw Taylor Wessing Partner and Head of Private Wealth Tan Choon Leng was an award recipient for the category – Singapore’s 20 most influential 40 and under lawyers. Choon Leng was recognised for his leadership in Private Wealth and M&A. RHTLaw Taylor Wessing congratulates Taylor Wessing UK on winning the Property Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards

Taylor Wessing UK has won the Property Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards. Hosted by Legal Week, the British Legal Awards set out to recognise the important contribution that the legal business community makes not just to the UK economy, but also to the wider community. The judging panel was made up of senior members of the legal community, including several former law firm managing partners and general counsel. Taylor Wessing's submission was made around the work the firm has done for Brentford Football Club, securing planning permission for the club's new 20,000 seater stadium – the first new stadium to be built in London in ten years. What was different was the team's use of the Social Value Act – which had never before been used in a planning context – to demonstrate the contribution that the stadium would make to the local community. Managing Partner Tan Chong Huat shared his thoughts with The Business Times on what he felt was the most significant news event of 2014. Chong Huat felt that the emergence of the ISIS took many headlines this year and reinforced the importance of racial harmony here in Singapore. While Singapore is largely considered to be immune from such risks, Chong Huat reminded readers that ISIS has made inroads into our neighbouring countries. Chong Huat remarked about how fortunate we all are to live in country which is safe, non-violent and governed by the rule of law. However Singaporeans should not take for granted the religious and racial harmony which we have enjoyed all these years.
