RHT Law Partner recognised by Euromoney as world’s leading real estate lawyer

Ms Amita Dutt, Partner and co-head of RHT Law’s Finance and Real Estate Practice has been nominated by in-house counsel and professional peers as one of the outstanding practitioners in Euromoney’s 9th edition of the Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers, to be published in December 2011.   To qualify as an outstanding practitioner, each individual must meet a strict threshold of nominations from his or her peers after analysis and screening for firm, formal network, group or alliance bias. The research involved a survey over 3,000 questionnaires to senior in-house counsel, partners at pre-eminent law firms, and other specialists in over 60 jurisdictions, as well as interviews with a select group of specialists in leading commercial centres worldwide.   This is the latest addition to her list of accolades, which include recognition as one of the top Real Estate lawyers by the International Bar Association in the 2008 edition of Who's Who Legal-Singapore and by AsiaLaw as a Leading Lawyer in Banking and Real Estate in 2010. This is also her second consecutive nomination as an outstanding practitioner in her field in the Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers. RHT Law to share insights at talk for Chinese enterprises

RHT Law’s Corporate & Securities Partner, Mr Lawrence Wong, will be delivering a talk in Chinese at the Chinese Enterprise Management Seminar (中资企业管理交流研讨会) on 15 November 2011, on the Proposed Changes to Companies Act and the amendments to the SGX Listing Manual. Organised by the China Enterprises Association (Singapore), Lawrence will join representatives from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, who will cover topics on financing, tax risk management, and enhancing competitiveness through restructuring of the supply chain for Chinese enterprises. Lawrence has acted as the leading partner in numerous initial public offerings, secondary fund raising and merger and acquisitions exercises and was recognised as a 'Leading Lawyer' in IFLR 1000’s 2011 rankings. As part of RHT Law's commitment to excellence in corporate governance, the firm's Managing Partner, Mr Tan Chong Huat, contributed his views as a panellist in a corporate governance workshop held on 25th October 2011, at Marina Mandarin Singapore. The workshop was one of many workshops organised by the Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS) as part of the 2011 Corporate Governance Week, and focused on board matters such as the indicators of board performance, changes in the Companies Act/ Code of Corporate Governance and Key Priorities for 2011. The panel discussion covered key issues such as board practices, succession, diversity, risk management, and matters relating to corporate governance. The other panel members include Mr David Chew, Executive Director of Deloitte & Touche Risk Consulting, Mr Chong Yoon Chou, Investment Director of Aberdeen Asset Management Asia Limited, and Mr Shariq Barmaky, Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP.

RHT Law congratulates RHT Corporate Advisory Pte. Ltd. on securing listed company Duty Free International Limited ("DFI") to engage their corporate secretarial services. DFI (formerly known as Esmart Holdings Limited) is the largest local duty-free trading group in Malaysia with strategic presence at all leading entry and exit points in Peninsular Malaysia. DFI's core business is in the trading of duty-free merchandise and hospitality services which are marketed under the well-known brand name, 'Zon' in Peninsular Malaysia. As part of the Group's hospitality business, DFI owns the Zon Johor Bahru Duty Free Complex. RHT Law and RHT Capital pledges support for excellence in corporate governance

RHT Law and RHT Capital have pledged their support to uphold and advance good corporate governance standards as Corporate Governance Professionals. The pledge is a key feature of this year's Singapore Corporate Governance week organised by the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) or SIAS. RHT Law and RHT Capital joins leading institutions and corporations who have endorsed this pledge, namely the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Singapore Exchange (SGX). The pledge is deemed to be timely given the sharp rise in average number of fraud cases in Singapore, notwithstanding that the Asian Corporate Governance Association in Hong Kong recently rated Singapore as having the best corporate governance standard in Asia. The Statement of Support for Year 2011 reads: "As an Organisation we are committed to upholding high standards of corporate governance to enhance shareholder value. We believe practising good corporate governance is central to the health and stability of our financial markets and economy." A total of 105 companies have signed the Statement of Support for excellence in corporate governance which has been published in the Business Times on 24th October 2011.

RHT Law strengthens litigation practice with strategic partner hire

RHT Law has brought to its ranks two key Partner hires - veteran lawyer Mr Sim Yong Chan, and Ms Tan Siew Kim, in a move to bolster its Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. Mr Sim joins as a Partner of RHT Law from his previous firm, Arthur Loke & Sim. He is a Litigator and Arbitrator, and is also reputed as an excellent deal initiator and negotiator for merger and acquisition transactions. His experience as a businessman prior to his present vocation as a lawyer stands him in good stead in advising on the dynamics of a deal and in signing up the interests of the parties. He is the current president of The Tanglin Club and legal advisor to the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan, and also holds directorships in two companies listed on the SGX. Ms Tan joins as a Partner of RHT Law from her previous firm, Wong Tan & Molly Lim LLC. She has a wide range of litigation experience, having conducted proceedings regularly in the Subordinate Courts (including the Family and Juvenile Courts), the High Court of Singapore and the Court of Appeal. In particular, she specialises in all aspects of contentious family matters including Appeals in the Court of Appeal. She has been involved in many aspects of civil / commercial litigation including the areas of banking (both corporate and individual), debts work, insurance as well as construction.
